Canada’s Next Startup Leaders Kick Off 2025 Fellowship Program at Smith School of Business

Kingston, ONMay 14, 2025

Venture for Canada (VFC) is proud to welcome its 2025 Fellowship cohort—55 ambitious, entrepreneurial young leaders from across the country—into its flagship program supporting the next generation of innovators and changemakers in Canada.

Selected from nearly 2,000 applicants, this year’s Fellows represent the diversity and potential of Canada’s future startup ecosystem. The majority are between the ages of 21 and 28, with 65% identifying as BIPOC and 27% as newcomers to Canada.

Launched in 2013, the Fellowship Program bridges the gap between post-secondary education and startup careers. Through entrepreneurial training, mentorship, peer connection, and hands-on experience, the program prepares young leaders to contribute meaningfully to Canada’s innovation economy and help build a more inclusive and resilient country.

The 2025 Fellowship kicks off this week with an immersive three-week training at Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business, hosted in long-time partnership with the school. Fellows will participate in workshops led by VFC staff, Canadian entrepreneurs, and industry-leading changemakers—exploring topics such as design thinking, navigating ambiguity, and embracing failure as a tool for growth, while tackling real-world challenges drawn from the startup landscape.

This foundational experience sets the tone for the year ahead, as Fellows transition into full-time roles with high-growth, impact-driven startups across the country. Throughout the program, they receive ongoing career coaching, mentorship, and community support—building the skills, networks, and confidence needed to thrive in entrepreneurial environments and make lasting change.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this year’s Fellowship cohort—55 emerging leaders who are stepping up to shape the future of Canadian entrepreneurship. After 11 years leading Venture for Canada, this will be my final Fellowship cohort and Training Camp as CEO. It’s a meaningful full-circle moment to welcome the next generation through the very program that inspired VFC’s founding.”
– Scott Stirrett, Founder & CEO, Venture for Canada
