Venture for Canada launches 2021 Fellowship Program: 7th National Cohort

Venture for Canada (VFC) has launched their applications for the 2021 Fellowship Program. Originally launched in 2013, VFC is recruiting for their 7th cohort of recent grads, who will participate in the latest evolution of the Fellowship.

“Now more than ever entrepreneurial skills are required to create an impact in our rapidly changing world,” said Scott Stirrett, Founder and CEO of Venture for Canada. “The Venture for Canada Fellowship Program has a proven track record of accelerating recent graduates’ careers through providing entrepreneurial work experiences, training, and community support.”

The 2021 Fellowship Program includes a reimagined virtual training program in response to COVID-19, which provides Fellows with a variety of options to advance their entrepreneurial skills and their readiness for the workplace. Fellows receive 3 to 5 months of personalized job search training and individual coaching to help find full-time employment with one of VFC’s partner startups. Fellows then take part in a one-year training program, with a virtual training camp, monthly training and networking opportunities, and exclusive access to VFC’s active and growing national community.

The 2021 admissions process has also been redesigned to support a virtual selection of participants across the country, with the aim of improving accessibility and transparency to the program.

Continuing its efforts to improve accessibility to the Fellowship, Venture for Canada is pleased to offer an enhanced and expanded needs-based bursary to 2021 Fellow Members of up to $2,000 per participant. Further details about the VFC Bursary will be announced later this Fall.

“Jobs, as we have known them, are being significantly disrupted by technology and new ways of doing business,” said Gina Patterson, Director of Programs at Venture for Canada. “VFC takes this very seriously. We are here to ensure bright young Canadian talent develop the entrepreneurial skills to prepare, and eventually lead the future of work in Canada.”

To date, 325 Fellows have participated in the program, with 100% of Fellows from the 2019 cohort being assessed by their employers as meeting or exceeding expectations. VFC Fellows have received such accolades as being accepted into Y Combinator, named to MIT’s 35 Innovators Under 35, and being named to the Bay Street Bull 2018 Power 50. 100% of VFC Fellow Alumni are still interested in founding venture or entrepreneurial career paths.

Recent graduates curious about startup work opportunities, entrepreneurial skill development and growing their professional network should apply to the Fellowship Program. To be considered for the Fall intake and secure a spot in the Fellowship early, applicants should submit an application by Oct 29. There will be a second intake period in Spring 2021.
